After an hour or so of casting and changing flies, a friend asked me where are the bugs and how come we hear no birds? Looking around I had to agree, what last season seemed in abundance is now almost desolate. I know what your thinking" no bugs, great, what's the big deal?"
Lack of aquatic insects is a sign of a troubled ecosystem, the whole food chain is affected. Less for fish and birds to feed on, increase mortality on all species. So why and how come it's come to this? Mild winter, dry summer, hot weather, increase predation? Don't know, but I will sure like to find out!
