Inner and outer decay, not as easy as it appears. In trees or people can be difficult to detect and even harder to determine the extent. Just sounding with a hammer may indicate the presence but not the extent. Confused?
In trees you can drill test, use a resistograph or tomography. Decay in a person none of those techniques are valid. People usually hide the symptoms from everyone, but the change in behavior, moodiness, complaining and other outburst are sure signs. The more dangerous sign is complacency, giving up and accepting mediocrity are signs of severe decay. Most turn to drugs or alcohol to mask the decay. True does help but at what cost?
The real cure for decay is to get out of that comfort zone, experience new things, read a book, walk in the woods, paddle that kayak to that unreachable spot, challenge yourself to do better, work smarter and compartmentalize the negative elements out of your life. Just start living and stop worrying. Worry never fixed anything. When a tree has decay, what does it do? It grows to wall of the decay. We have a lot we can learn from trees!
